Chapter Seven

Angle and Airalyn sat in their chairs on the bridge at two in the morning staring at the wall monitor. Sky had contacted them an hour earlier and told them the probe would be arriving shortly if they wanted to be present to see what happened. Angle stared at the distant speck of light on the monitor and asked, “Sky, has the probe run into any Camden warships on the way into this star system?”

“There have been quite a few scouts out patrolling the system, but the probe changed course and remained outside the detection range of their scanners.”

Angle shook his head, “That speck of light is getting visibly larger by the second.”

“The probes are almost as fast as the messengers, and you should be able to see what’s happening at the planet in less than five minutes.”

They remained seated and Airalyn suddenly said, “Is that a Soren Warship?”

“Where?” Angle asked.

“It appears to have just left the planet and is headed toward Soren territory.” The monitor zoomed in, and a sky-blue colored warship appeared on the monitor. “Looks like they finished their business here,” Airalyn commented.

Angle turned to Airalyn, “You were able to see that warship?”

Airalyn shrugged, “My eyesight is superior to yours.”

Angle shook his head as the monitor moved from the Soren ship to the planet. There were thousands of Camden warships in orbit above the planet and as they moved in closer, they saw transports start coming up from the planet’s surface to a large group of them. “It appears they are loading supplies on those warships gathered in a tight formation.”

“There are two thousand warships in that formation,” Sky reported.

“Well, it appears you were right, Angle,” Airalyn remarked. She turned to him and asked, “So, what are you going to do about this?”

“Sky, how long will it take them to be supplied and arrive at Earth?”

“About twelve days. The probe will let us know when they leave for Earth.”

Airalyn stood up, I’m going to go back and try to get some rest. There’s nothing we can do about this now.” Angle nodded and Airalyn left the ship.

Angle stared at the monitor and saw the number of transports leaving the planet’s surface dramatically increased over the next thirty minutes. Angle turned to the console and said, “Sky, I want you to try and contact someone for me.”

“Who is that?” Angle told him and Sky instantly replied, “That might not be easily done.”

“Just do the best you can,” Angle replied. He sat back in his chair and fell asleep an hour later.

Twelve days later, the Camden fleet of two thousand warships entered the Solar System. It took them longer because transporting supplies from the planet took longer than they anticipated. They flew past the orbit of Jupiter and Angle turned to the console, “Open a channel to the Camden commanding that fleet.” A Camden appeared on the wall monitor and Angle said, “You should stop your fleet, turn around, and go back where you came from.” The Camden snarled and ended the contact.
